Job Description

The Construction Superintendent is the senior on-site official responsible for the overall success of the project and the face of the company to local client representatives. The Superintendent plans, coordinates, directs and supervises personnel, subcontractors and vendors ensuring that they complete the work on time and within the budget safely, with quality workmanship and to the customer’s satisfaction.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides overall management and administration for construction projects
  • Meets construction schedule, financial goals, and quality/safety standards
  • Monitors subcontractor performance to insure schedules and quality objectives are met
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises projects/ communicates objectives
  • Monitors budgets and schedules to insure targets are met
  • Prepares project reports and documentation, communicates with client and company management
  • Reviews Change Orders, RFIs, and Submittal schedules
  • Prepares procurement schedule, coordinates purchasing, and monitors critical path and long lead items
  • Assists in preparing new project proposals and contracting new business
  • Consults with management to establish, implement and enforce policies and procedures in compliance with corporate standards and relevant laws and regulations
  • Identifies the need for and implements corrective action, and ensures overall contractual compliance
  • Thoroughly understands the contract and ensures accurate execution of plans, specifications, statement of work, performance work statements, task orders, safety plans, quality control plan and all other project-related plans and procedures
  • Completes monthly cost-to-complete analysis
  • Ensure that all project invoicing and subcontractor/vendor invoices are timely approved
  • Evaluates subordinate management and staff and develops their potential; encourages, recognizes and rewards top performers, and corrects or replaces non-performers
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, Department of Labor, Department policies, guidelines, and job requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Construction Management, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction field experience in the role of Construction Superintendent
  • Good understanding of federal, state and local equal employment, labor, OSHA and environmental laws and regulations
  • Strong business writing and oral communication skills
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension)
  • Ability to delegate to and hold subordinates accountable for assigned tasks
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
  • Advanced abilities in current versions of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Completion of OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour safety course
  • Commercial, multi-use construction experience highly desirable
